Inviting people to imagine an all-electric future

In 2023, Volkswagen Canada went to Collision, North America's fastest-growing tech conference. Not only were we the first automaker to appear at a Collision event in Canada, but we showed up to inspire attendees in a uniquely VW way. How? With the Grass Station – a place to help everyone imagine what an all-electric future could look like.

The Grass Station asked people to dream about what comes next. As we say goodbye to gas vehicles and hello to the world of EVs, we’re going to need to reimagine our vehicles, our roads, our cities, and yes, even our gas stations.

So what exactly is the Grass Station? It’s a full-sized gas station covered in moss, grass, and live plants, which reconceptualized the space as a communal area and EV charging station. Inside, we parked two of our all-electric vehicles: the ID.4 and the ID. Buzz. Attendees were able to create their own futuristic Volkswagen electric vehicles using the power of AI – where they could use a limitless variety of prompts to design VWs that can fly, are made of glass, are powered entirely by solar power, and more!

But the Grass Station experience is more than just a dream. It’s well underway. After all, Volkswagen Group is aiming to have every vehicle we produce be electric by 2035, we’ve recently invested in the St. Thomas battery plant in Canada, and we’ve partnered with Electrify Canada to help create a network of charging stations all around the country.

The future is closer than you think. Feels good, right?
