To ensure you qualify for an Over-the Air update, you must download the myVW app, accept the myVW and Car-Net Terms of Service and add your vehicle to the garage. As a last step ensure the prerequisite in-dealership service campaign codes have been completed on your vehicle. Details are of the pre-requisite in-dealership service campaign code are available in the Electric Vehicle Software 3.2 update page.
For Electric Vehicles: When an Over-the Air (OTA) update is available, you will receive a notification in your myVW app for consenting to download the update. You can choose to opt out of the OTA update by declining the download consent in the myVW app.
ID.Software Version is listed in the Latest Update page within your Over-the-Air update section in your myVW app. You can also find the ID.Software Version within the “Release Notes” which will be available in your myVW app and infotainment screen prior to installation and after the update is complete.
For electric vehicles, “Release Notes” will be available in your myVW as well as infotainment screen prior to install and after the update is complete. We also have the upcoming OTA release notes listed HERE.
No, all Over-the-Air Updates are available at no additional charge to our customers.
No, the vehicle warranty will remain intact.
Once you have consented to the OTA download in the myVW, it may take a few weeks before it’s time for you to update your vehicle as the updates are rolled out in batches.
- Please also ensure that you have signed up for myVW (and also accepted the latest Terms of Service) and completed the necessary in-dealer service campaign codes. These are both requirements to receive a software update over the air."

The over-the-air update may be pushed to your vehicle within the next few weeks. If you still do not see the prompt of installation, we will send you a communication to visit your dealer for the update, once it’s available.

You need to be connected to the mobile broadband network in order to download the software update.
However, once the download is complete, the installation can occur without a data connection.
Some settings might reset to default after installing the update.
Sometimes, Over-the-Air Updates only improve background functionality or systems.
Each time you turn off your vehicle, the notification will be listed in the “Goodbye Screen” within the Infotainment screen.
Go to the Service page in your myVW app and there you will find Over-the-Air update section. Click on it and you will be able to view the update details and provide your consent provided the campaign is still open.
The Over-the-Air update is available for a limited time in the myVW app hence we recommend to provide the consent as soon as possible. If the campaign is closed in the myVW App, then the Over-the-Air update page would reflect 'No Update is available'.
The high-voltage battery must be at least 50% charged at the start of the installation.
No, the vehicle cannot be charged or plugged-in during installation.
Please stop charging (if doing so), unplug the charging cable and then start the installation of the update. In order to successfully complete the Over-the-Air Update, please ensure a minimum charging status of 50%.
A notification will be sent your mobile confirming that the update was successfully installed. Once you proceed to your vehicle, you will also see the notification in your infotainment system confirming that the update was successfully installed.
Installation time details are displayed in your infotainment system when you are providing consent to install the update in your vehicle. Once you have consented, please make sure that you have parked your vehicle in a safe location, locked your vehicle and moved away from your vehicle.
Unfortunately, the update is not currently available at our dealership. We will notify eligible customers who haven't completed the software update over-the-air, when the in-dealer software update is available
Once you have the downloaded software on your vehicle, you will continue to be prompted until installation is completed.
Rest assured you are able to postpone the OTA installation until a time when it's most convenient for you.
Unfortunately, once the installation starts, the ID.4 will not be capable of driving. We suggest initiating the installation at the end of the day, when all your planned driving needs are completed for the day.
1 EV Software Download
To receive OTA updates, you’ll need to download the myVW app and register as the primary user of your vehicle. This ensures you're always informed about the latest software updates available for your electric vehicle.
When an update is available for your vehicle, the myVW app will alert you via pop-up and/or in-app notification. You'll see options to:
- View Update: View the software package details and provide consent to download the update.
- Maybe Later: Defer your consent to download the update. Note: 2 deferrals are possible.
- Decline Update: Declining the update may require a dealer visit in future for the update.
Once you've consented, the software package will be downloaded in the background. There will be no data cost for downloading the update.
2 EV Software Installation
Once the software download is complete, installation can begin, and your infotainment screen will prompt you to tap “Install.”
Installation time will be displayed in the infotainment system, and you will not be able to drive or charge your vehicle until installation is complete. So, if it’s not a good time, you can postpone the installation until the next time you shut off your vehicle.
To begin installation, tap ""Install”, exit your vehicle with everything you may need while waiting, and lock your car with your key. You will be notified in your infotainment screen once the installation is complete.
To postpone installation in an electric vehicle, refrain from tapping “Install” on the infotainment screen.
IMPORTANT: Once the installation starts, your vehicle cannot be driven or charged. We suggest initiating the installation at the end of the day, when all your planned driving needs are completed for the day.
You will be notified in your myVW app as well as your infotainment screen once the installation is complete.
